Meet Dr. Laura Hofto
Dr. Laura Hofto was born and raised on the Gulf Coast in Mobile, Alabama where she was an avid swimmer and beach lover. Dr. Laura received her Bachelor of Science degree from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, and graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Dentistry in 2014. In dental school, Dr. Laura went on a mission trip to Haiti where she provided dental care to those in the underserved community of Gressier. She saw firsthand how much dentistry affects a person’s overall health and how rewarding it is to help relieve a patient’s dental pain.
Following dental school, Dr. Laura pursued additional training during a one-year general practice residency at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. She gained more knowledge in treating medically complex patients and dental traumas, and she participated in clinics that provided free dentistry to communities in East Tennessee. While living in East Tennessee, Dr. Laura fell in love with the mountains and knew she wanted to practice dentistry in a city where she could go hiking and experience changing seasons.
Dr. Laura worked in private practice, primarily in a pediatric dental office, for several years after her general practice residency. She realized her passion for working with children and moved back to Memphis to complete a two-year pediatric residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She is trained in moderate sedation, hospital dentistry, and has advanced training in treating children with special health care needs. Dr. Laura treated patients at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital while in residency. She has worked with children of all ages, and she loves helping her patients overcome their fear of dentistry.
Dr. Laura earned a Masters of Dental Science during her residency at the University of Tennessee. In 2020, Dr. Laura was awarded the Pugh Achievement Award that honors the top three percent of scores for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry Qualifying Exam. She obtained full board certification in 2021 and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Laura is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, and the Southeast Society of Pediatric Dentistry.
Dr. Laura loves traveling, reading, watching documentaries, spending time with friends and family, and spoiling her precious nieces and nephew. She has an adorable dachshund puppy named Maisie Grace. She is excited to explore the Upstate of South Carolina and to care for the dental needs of the children in the Greenville community!
